‘Let Us Hold Hands’: Lived Practices of Intimacy Among Gay Youth in Urban India

This article contributes to the growing literature on youth sexualities and intimacy, by centring lived experiences of self-identified gay in eastern Indian city Kolkata. It draws interview narratives thirteen between ages 19 26, living Kolkata, unpack two inter-locking ways which these sexual minority co-construct intimacy within urban space: (a) as verbal non-verbal disclosure (b) embodied intimacy. The findings underline how studying youth’s practices offer a unique window into politics life twenty-first-century India.
